two for your nerves

well, first, a million and one ‘thank yous’ for all the love you gave me yesterday about my table and signs. you people are ah-mazing. sure know how to make a guy feel special. (and it’s nice to see so many ‘the office’ fans out there!)

i wanted to share two more signs with you today … hope you like them.

this first sign i made from a text/graphic i found on a blog. i don’t remember where, so i do apologize. (if you know – shoot me an email.)

i’ve been saving images and sayings in a file on my computer for signs i want to make. this quote i found a couple weeks ago and thought it would make a great sign!

the text is in an orangish yellow. i pieced together two oddly cut boards. i think the combination works really nice. and since the snow doesn’t want to seem to stop falling from the sky today, i can just look at this here sign and think of brighter tomorrows.

this next sign is completely 100% inspired by a sign i saw here. in fact, other than the wood it’s painted on, the text is pretty much identical.

i’ve been in love with this sign for quite some time so i knew i had to make it. i love how it looks on my new shelf.

i gave the wood a blueish/greyish feel. it may be hard to tell in my pictures, but it’s there. again i used some old wood piece together. which reminds me, i got this wood from the wonderful people at r.m. smith lumber & wood. i found them via an ebay search. it turns out they live sorta nearby. (shout out to all my fellow pennsylvanians!) i believe they are tearing down a shed so this is where all the wood is coming from. they have a facebook page, and also do a little blogging too. in fact they just shipped me some more wood today! yay.

oh, and my kitty jax wanted to say hi.  he’s a little shy/scared of the camera as you can tell from the expression on his face. but isn’t he the sweetest?

hope you’re having the best wednesday ever! unless your jen, in which case i hope you and your family feel better soon. being sick is the pits!

  1. hi there michael-love your signs. did you paint the lettering? are you giving tutorials? what kind of paint did you use and did you first pencil on the text? yes, we need a tutorial! your kitty is darling. we just got a new kitty after several kittyless years. ours (we don’t really care)has some russian blue in her. is yours
    also part russian blue?

would love to know how to make signs. oh, and are you still accepting fabric for your quilt?

    question overload.

    thanks a bunch,

    diedre

  2. diedre,

thanks for your comment. i couldn’t find an email address for you so i’ll try and answer some of your questions here.

i’ll be putting together a tutorial sometime soon! promise.

the paint is acrylic. and yes i print all the text/images out on my computer first. i’m good … but not that good.

my cat is a stray so i’m not sure who his mom and dad were.. but i assume there’s a little russian blue in him.

and yes! i still need fabric. thank you!! :)

  3. Sell these!! I need one for my kitchen. We have a really high wall with shelves & it needs some more decor. And I love them all, great job Michael!

random…I’ve got a russian blue too!

  4. Oh how I love your signs! The first one is so pretty, I just love all the swirls. The second one is adorable. Love that the type is not the same, yet it works so well together! The weathered wood is amazing,

  5. You really need to sell these. I’ve been doing a lot of Etsy stalking for my weekly Etsy featurettes. Signs are pretty popular but the script + wood elements like this are very original. Love it. You’ve got skillz.

  6. love them all…great job!
and btw i clicked on your “first quilt” posts and saw that you love Alicia…she is the reason I started blogging TOO!

  7. Michael,

The signs are great. My wife really wants one. We may have to come see your place and visit the gift shop.

Thanks for the links and acknowledgments. I appreciate the photos on our Facebook page, too.

That’s the last of the boards from this building, but we have another that has to go. A storm two weeks ago took off the roof. We’ve been thinking about taking it down and I think it is too far gone to repair the roof, now. So….signs, I guess.

    Thanks again.

  8. Hi Michael…I am passing along the stylish blogger award to you. I am really glad I found your blog recently and look forward to your posts! Check out my blog to see what I mean! Take care, Danielle

  9. Michael, thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. I was having a particularly bad day and seeing you took the time to leave a comment made me smile! Your blog is fantastic!

  10. I saw your blog from Tatertots and Jello! Nice sign! I too really like what you did to your table on your previous post! And the schrute farms sign is HILARIOUS!!!! Love “The Office” and I would love that in my kitchen. For those that don’t watch the office could think that it’s some cool organic farm or something and for “The Office” fans…they would get a kick out of that. I suggest you make another sign and do a giveaway!! =)

    New follower!

  11. Hey! Thanks so much for your sweet comment. Still in awe, your signs look SO GOOD. I really love everything about that quote and your translation of it. And glad you have great content for me to thief! ;)

  12. You’re right! The Fresh Berries sign looks exactly like mine! I did a double-take. It is one of my very favorites, but I just sold it a few weeks ago. It was tough to let go, but I didn’t have the perfect spot for it.

You did an excellent job on yours.

Thanks for linking back to me. :)

  13. Love, love, love your signs!!! I would snap up the Best is Yet to Come if only you sold it – you have to make more and sell!!! I’m a new follower and so glad to have found you!!!

  14. kudos michael! these signs are just wonderful, i love them both but the swirls in the first are impressive.
i second the idea of selling these signs…perfect for your shop, no?!
