like these super cool cement garden balls. i seen these babies a couple years ago and just came upon them again. i think it's a sign.
they are made with round forms like a glass globe for a light fixture.
...or a soccer ball. i think they'd add such a interesting touch to a garden.
now on to a completely different subject ... i've been recently thinking about getting a tattoo. i probably never will cause the thought of something that permanent scares me, but who knows.
surprising, i found that a lot of people use pinterest to catalog tattoo ideas. smart! anyway, i came across the one above and i really love it. it's small. it's meaningful. it's simple. it's beautiful.

and speaking of paint, i'm still a huge fan of chalkboard paint.
oh my. this could be one of my favorites. for some reason i'm loving little toadstools these days and i thought these were super duper cute! they are from pier1. and since i don't live near a peir1, i immediately sent my super amazing and beautiful sister-in-law to pick up a set for me. isn't she the best! there is actually a set of three! yay. just love them.
so now i after talking about owls and tattoos and chalkboards and mushrooms and cement gardens spheres and blue painted dressers you may understand why i feel this quote is perfectly fitting for me.
i'll be a kid at heart forever. thank goodness, cause being a grown up can be a bummer sometimes. expect the whole drinking wine part.

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the equal sign tattoo, I think you should go for it! I have one tattoo, a lady bug, and it didn't really hurt when I got it. I thought it felt more annoying than painful.

ReplyDeleteOne is a playboy bunny on my hip for my bestfriend who died in 2003, she had always said she wanted a red bunny with black outline so I got it with R.I.P and her initials =)
Then I have a small butterfly on my ankle that matches one of my bestfriends =)
I want to get a gladiolis somewhere because it is the august birth flower and my kids were both born in august!

ReplyDeleteI really dislike visible tattoos on anyone. I don't have a tattoo, in fact, I LOATHE them with a white-hot passion on women (I immediately think "slag" when I see one, which isn't nice at all but it's such a kneejerk reaction with me! I'm just being honest). I'm not terribly fond of them on men, either, but do give some leeway for a nice, meaningful tattoo on a guy, as long as it doesn't lead to massive ink everywhere, which it can because I've heard they are addicting. In all truthfulness, I just think a lot of them really are silly and trendy, and are a permanent reminder of a temporary emotion, for the most part. However, the equal sign really has significant meaning, and I am totally supportive of what it represents; I was so dismayed when Prop. 8 went through in California, of all places! Don't even get me started! I will say this, though: the ideology behind Prop. 8 is based purely on other people's religious notions (I don't believe in organized religion), is totally hypocritcal, and I fail to see why that should dictate other people's lives. Prop. H8 certainly is not in the Christian idea of love, is it? Separation of church and state is in the Constitution! \rant Let us know what you decide!
Love the dresser, too, its my favorite color!

I've got loads of tattoos. 11, to be exact.
ReplyDeleteEach and every one represents something important in my life, eventhough you probably couldn't tell just from looking at them.
The little paw print on my left hand, for example, I got in memory of Penny, my much- loved first cat , after I had to let her go over the rainbow bridge.
The clover on the back of my neck stands for my grandpa, and the torn skin witha blue eye beneath it above my belly button reminds me of te person I can be, but never want to be again... and so on.
I adore beautiful tattoos, but on my body, they have the practical function of something like a diary,to commit certain events to memory and leave visible reminders. Err... makes sense?
I get so happy when there is a new post from you! I am a newbie to your blog & love to see your creativity, inspiration & the little glimpse into you! I am also thinking about a tattoo, not sure what to get either & want it to be meaningful! Keep us posted! looking at your old posts is like opening a little present every day! So much fun!! Michael, I recently heard a good way to make hard decisions. Maybe it will help you with your tattoo decision. Flip a coin and say you'll go one way if it's heads and the other way if it's tails. When the coin lands, see how you feel about the "coin's decision." Often, you will feel disappointed or relieved at what the coin tells you to do and that can actually help you make the decision by revealing your true feelings about the issue.
ReplyDeleteHi Michael! I love your site and found you on Pinterest. :) I wanted to comment on your post about getting a tattoo. I have 5 small tattoos and they all have a special meaning to me. Some are simple and easy to decipher, some are less obvious. They're all in discreet locations and I love each one. Many people who meet me are surprised to know I have 1, let alone 5! I say if something speaks to you (like the Human Rights symbol) then go for it!

I have two tattoos. The first one is tiny, about an inch square, and it's the Chinese symbol for Tiger because I was born in the year of the Tiger.
ReplyDeleteThe second one holds a bit more meaning for me. It's a backwards bass clef and an upside-down treble clef forming a heart together. This one has about three layers of meaning. First off, I've played music my whole life. I play flute, piccolo, piano, saxophone, and I have sang in multiple choirs as well as dancing for my alma mater. Second, most of the instruments I play are in the treble clef. My husband is also musically inclined. He plays keyboard, pocket sax, and ocarina, but his favorite is the trombone. So my tattoo symbolizes both of us without something as cliche as getting his name tattooed on me or the like. Finally, my first name starts with an S. Treble clefs look quite similar to an S. My husband's first name starts with C. Bass clefs look like a C. So having both there, making a heart, is actually my husband's and my initials along with something we both love and do together as well as something that's been a big part of my life since childhood. I wouldn't give up my tattoo for anything!
My grandmother has a tattoo on her forearm. Her uncle was a Jew during the Holocaust and was held in a concentration camp. He survived, but his wife and children, my grandmother's aunt and cousins, did not survive. Her tattoo is her uncle's prisoner number. To the person above me who thinks of slag when seeing tattoos, I am so sorry you feel that way. I hope someday you understand that tattoos are not just for certain kinds of people and can have beautiful, deep, and very personal meanings behind them for their bearers.
