Well, I’m at it again. I’m filling things with flowers that were not intended for flowers. Honestly, I just can’t help myself! I’m loving it! Ready for my latest creation?
So I found this oversized chicken feeder (at least that’s what I’m told) and knew instanly it would make the perfect planter!
I love the little wood handle, the rope, and al the rusty details. It was screaming to be brought back to life.
Well, I did just that. Goodbye chicken feeder, hello gorgeous!
Luckily, I was able to find the perfect size hanging basket that fit exactly inside of the top of this feeder. The rim of the plastic basket fits right around the top holding it in place perfectly. Sweet!
To this pot of what I assume are some ivy type geraniums, I added some white bacopa and a licorice plant.
Both of these additions will trail nicely down the pot while the geraniums will mostly grow up.
Right now this bucket of awesomeness is on my little patio table on my side porch, but will probably get moved as it’s pretty large.
Though, it does look kind of perfect there doesn’t it? Too many flowers, not a enough room for them all. What’s a guy to do?
I also put together one of these feeder planters for my Dad’s wife. I think she likes it as much as I do. She asked, ‘how could you give that away!?’ I confessed that I bought two!
Lately, when I have the opportunity, I’m learning to by two of everything. Nothing wrong with that right?
So what do you think of my newest planter?
I’m also linking this post up to this awesomeness:
I would be so honored and excited to be a Home Show Designers!
Thanks to The Painted Home and the Philadelphia Home Show!

Love ittttttt!!!
It’s wonderful
I love it so much! I love the buy two plan as well. I think I might have to adopt it:0)
I love it! I would love this in my garden, will have to keep my eyes peeled for one!
I think it looks beautiful!! I love it
Love it! I have one myself that I did last year with geraniums and bacopa on the top and this year I made the top a bird bath (I placed a round cake pan inside the top it fit nice and snug) and planted impatiens in the bottom (feeder) part. It sits nicely on top of an old concrete pedestal under my birch tree which has 5 bird feeders hanging from it…love it. I also have the oblong chicken feeder (the lower ones) and have them in my shade garden with more impatiens….
I purchase mine at the local mud sale each March and get them nice and cheap!!!! They are a dime a dozen at those Amish sales. The older and crustier, the cheaper and that is the way I like them. lol.
Lu-huv it. Why did I think of that? Now I can’t wait until our next Nashville flea market. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love it. I love when things are used in a new way.
I wish you had bought 3..I want one!!!!
It’s fabulous! And how fun that you can simply plop at hanging basket right into it!
I love this! It’s sad that these great galvanized feeders only last a few years and then are replaced (I know, I have chickens). I’m glad to find something else to do with them!
I love it, Michael!! That’s what I love to see – what you do creatively with your great finds! It does goes well with the vintage funnels, too!!
Make that 4! Wow… in LOVE!!!
Dare I ask if you’re turning into a real deal JUNKER?!
What a great planter and it is perfect for the ivy-leaf geranium.
Absolutely gorgeous! And I love the idea of buying two of things. I’m going to remember that!
Very creative … luv it!

It’s gorgeous and I love the trailing “licorice” plant? I’ll have to look into that one. I love the feeder. I’ve never seen one like that but it is cool! Great job, as always!

I spent 10 years growing geraniums and I believe the one you used is a hybrid (a cross between an ivy and a regular geranium) called Caliente Fire. You did a beautiful job!
Very nice, Michael! (Looks like some comments above are spam.)
