Hocus Pocus Broom Co.

I painted this wall a little over four years ago, and since then, chalkboarding (if that’s even a word) has become an art form.
The intricate and awe-inspiring creations people produce with chalk on walls simply blow my mind. With such masterpieces out there, I feel a bit nervous displaying my novice creations for the world to see. Even the pressure to come up with a unique idea is tough.
This past summer I did a dessert/ice cream inspired display. For the past several weeks I’ve been racking my brain about what to do for fall. Last night after I clawed into bed, not even thinking about my fall chalkboard, inspiration struck! I grabbed my notebook and began sketching.
My idea was a sign/display for a broom shop – a witch’s broom shop! Perfect! Full of excitement, I was slightly tempted to get out of bed at midnight and go work on the wall. However, my pillow didn’t think that was such a good idea.
After washing away my previous design, I was greeted with a blank canvas.
I grabbed my very small supply of chalk and went to work.
A few short hours later the design was complete and Hocus Pocus Broom Co. was born!
Though it’s clearly nothing as fancy as a professional chalk artist’s work, I’m pretty pleased with the results!
The names of the brooms are a little tricky to read, but we have the Haunted Hog, Frightful Flyer, Cauldron Lowrider, Swift Sweeper, and The Wicked Witch. Pretty clever, right?
I did a little online research to figure out five different broom designs. Seeing them all together makes sense, but it was harder than I anticipated to come up with five styles.
Anyway, I think it’s perfect for the season. It will stay up through October 31, at which time a holiday chalk display will take over. I guess I should start thinking about that one now. Is Christmas really less than four months away!? Yikes!
All right, I’m off to clean up a bunch of chalk dust. Have a great weekend
I love everything you do – pictures, drawings, arrangements, food, and everything else that comes to your mind. I am not a decorator, but you give me excellent ideas. Thank you!!
