Yes, it’s true that wine usually makes me pretty happy. Anyone else? What makes me even happier is to spend some much needed time with friends.

Yes, surprised or not, I’m a huge LeAnn Rimes fan.

Last Saturday my friends Emily, Krista, her hubby Jere, and I hopped into Emily’s van and took off for the day to enjoy five local wineries. All four of us are pretty bad at making decisions so the fact that we managed to make this all work was quite epic.

t turned out to be the perfect day. We are just finishing up peak leaf season around here. Some of the trees were still in full color. It was beautiful!

Our first stop was Flickerwood Wine Cellars

Sweet Angel Red is probably one of my favorites from their collection, . It’s a little on the sweet side, but delicious! You can see in the picture above that they had a batch of it warmed up in a crock pot with some apple juice and mulling spices. Amazing! It tasted like Fall and Christmas all rolled into one.

After that we headed to the Winery at Wilcox where they served our samples in a fun little flight.

Cute, right? These were pretty big samples, but it clearly wasn’t a problem for us. Emily was the designated driver, and not a big wine drinker, so she passed. Thanks for driving, Emily!

We then found our way back to St. Marys and stopped at one of the newer wineries, Elk Mountain Winery. The lady pouring the sample was cracking us up! What a hoot.

Apparently, after this winery I stopped taking pictures. Oops! After that we headed to Wapiti Ridge Wine Cellars and Benezette Wines. Then, we got some dinner at a local bar and hopped to another for a nightcap.

It’s rare for me to let loose like this and drink wine all day long, but it was definitely needed. Spending the day with friends was a huge stress relief and such a nice change of pace. It’s sad, but super important, that I literally need to pull myself away to enjoy a fun and happy day.

What do you do when you and your friends get together? Do you have local wineries you like to visit? Any fun wine tours I need to add to my bucket list? Should I put together a blogger wine tour? How fun would that be?!

We have a ton of wineries here in Southern Illinois & did the same thing a couple weeks ago! My mother-in-law is a wino & she decided she wanted to do a day on the wine trails for her birthday! The weather was perfect & a bunch of the wineries had live entertainment! It was a great day!

Looks like you & your friends had a great time as well!! And your right….wine makes pretty much makes everyone happy!!

What a fun afternoon–so glad you enjoyed yourself, Michael! You work so hard, this break was well deserved.

It’s been a couple years since my girlfriends have done a wine tasting–it’s high time we do it again!

Sounds like you had fun! That’s the important part! The best wine trip is the Chautaque Lake region. There are 20+ wineries within driving distance. It makes for a GREAT weekend getaway!

As a French girl I can do nothing else than to admit that a glass of wine and good friends are one the best way to spend a “heavenly like” moment. Your trip makes me willing to taste US wines :-)

What a great way to spend an afternoon. I love days like this with my girlfriends. If you ever have a chance to get away and do a wine trip visit Niagara on the Lake and do one of the many wine tours there. Great wines!
