A Day with HomeGoods in New York City

Happy Monday, everyone! How was your weekend? Is it really mid- January already? I don’t know about you, and though I’m slightly embarrassed to admit it, I still have Christmas decorations up in my house. Yikes! I better get myself in gear.

As I mentioned on the blog last week, I spent this past Thursday and Friday in New York City. The wonderful folks at HomeGoods (Yes, HomeGoods!) are launching a brand new blog in the coming months and have invited me and several other amazing folks to be contributors. As you know, I’m a huge fan of HomeGoods (I know many of you are, too.), so this pairing is just perfect.

They invited all of us to the city for a fun little blogger day. We stayed at the Gansevoort Hotel which was super swanky and fabulous. Purple chandeliers and armchairs upholstered in an oversize houndstooth pattern. I loved it!  On Thursday I had a couple ”free” hours to explore the city. I jumped on the subway, and after getting slightly lost (I now know the difference between uptown and downtown, I think.), I ended up in SoHo and did a little shopping. I found a blue polka dot sweater at TopMan and a Members Only-inspired jacket at Zara. I love a good sale. The weather was gorgeous. I could have spent all afternoon exploring the city. After that, we all met up for dinner at Benjamin Steakhouse, which actually used to be the space occupied by Britney Spear’s restaurant Nyla. How’s that for a fun fact?

The following day was spent learning about HomeGoods and their plan for the blog. It sounds like it’s going to be an incredibly fun and inspirational space. I’m so excited to start blogging there. We also got some headshots for the blog. After lunch we were super surprised to find out that HomeGoods was bringing in Grace Bonney, creator and blogger behind the amazing Design*Sponge to speak to us about blogging. Talk about star struck. Not only is Grace really sweet and cute, but her advice was priceless. As I attempt to figure out where I want to take my life and this blog, her words of wisdom couldn’t have come at a better time. Now I need to put it into action! That’s the hard part.

A trip to New York City is always a bittersweet experience for me. Each time I’m there I find myself leaving with mixed emotions. I’m pretty sure I could never live in the city, but I absolutely love visiting! I could spend hours siting on a bench, people watching. There are so many beautiful people sporting some of the best clothes and hairstyles. The city is full of shops, shows, and restaurants. Endless stimulation for all five senses. It’s inspiring. As much as I am overjoyed at being there, I also have this sick feeling in my gut, knowing that I have to leave soon. I suppose that’s what love does to us. It twists our insides with both joy and sadness. (This is when I should be referring to my New Year’s goals for guidance, right?) I just try to absorb and enjoy as much as I can during the limited time I’m there and then look forward to my next visit.

Regardless, it was such a fun time, and I’m so thankful to HomeGoods for their hospitality and beautiful accommodations. They truly have a rock star team and I’m endlessly appreciative of companies that reach out and support the efforts of bloggers. It allows us to continue to do what we love.

Until we meet again, NYC.
