Weekend Wanderlust: No. 3

Gardening – Okay, gardening  might be stretching it, but I picked up some indoor plants this weekend at Walmart. It’s only the beginning of February and cabin fever has already set in. I’m doing whatever I can to freshen things up in the house. More on that project later.

Drink – I busted out the big wine glasses on Saturday night and somehow found myself watching Bring It On. Surprisingly, it was kind of a perfect evening. Spirit fingers!

Test Message Fashion Show – I mentioned this before, but a few friends and I will soon be heading on a cruise so we are building our cruise wardrobes. Since my BFF and I don’t live near one another, we are forced to have “Text Message Fashion Shows.” I highly recommend them. This was our most recent one. Too much fun!

Wear - Have you heard of Kiel James Patrick? I might be kind of obsessed. Basically, it’s a brand / man / company that makes these beautiful nautically inspired accessories. After falling madly for this particular one, I had to have one for my very own. Although the first size I ordered is a little tight (I’ve already sent for a replacement.), it’s true love! I have heard that the company will be releasing a new spring line any day now. Be on the look out!

Cook – While it’s nowhere near by birthday, I stumbled across these Birthday Cake Pancakes from Pennies on a Platter and immediately starting craving birthday cake. What a smart and fun idea for a special birthday breakfast. (It’s my opinion that on your birthday you should eat as much cake as is humanly possible!)

Celebrate - How adorable are these gold painted animal candle holders from The Sweetest Occasion? So genius and weird, but it makes perfect sense. The fact that they are gold is even better because gold and I are BFF lately. I think I need these on my next birthday cake.

Decorate – Speaking of gold, you’ll have to check out my latest on BHG’s Style Spotters blog. I totally fell in love with this vignette from one of their latest photo shoots. I’m not sure what it is about this picture, but it hits all of my design sweet spots. The blue chair, the splash of green, and the asymmetrically hung gold mirror. It’s magic. Anyway, I did a little round up of gold mirrors here, if you’d like to check it out.

Bake – My brother had a Super Bowl party yesterday (How killer was Beyonce by the way?!), so I whipped up a batch of Chocolate Coconut Bars (a.k.a. Hello Dollies). I’ll be sharing the recipe soon.

Change - Well, Christmas is finally coming down in the Gift Shoppe. Yeah, I know it’s already February. I try and stretch Christmas out as long as possible with a big New Year Sale. I also don’t start getting new merchandise until February. It may be weird, but it works. So, with new merchandise on its way, it’s time to make spring happen – on the inside at least.

ReadGretchen Ruben’s The Happiness Project has been on my “must-read” list for quite some time. I finally decided to break it open this weekend and I’m finding myself flying through it. Her advice is exactly what I need right now. I’m so glad I decided to dive in. Have you read it yet? Thoughts?

Hope you had a super weekend! What exciting things did you do or find?

  1. I had a weekend just packed to the gills with creating, as you well know :) I actually don’t think I’ve been out of the house since Friday night (don’t tell anyone!). There has been plenty to do inside–getting my snowmen & winter decor put away, getting out V-Day goodies–and it is so dang cold and windy. That’s an enormous incentive for me to stay indoors. Tomorrow I’ve got a meeting with an author whose book I’m publishing, so that will be my first big outing : / Cripes!

  2. A glass of wine & bring it on?! You are a man after my own heart! Sounds like a perfect evening to me too! :) Thanks for the book suggestion! I just might have to check that one out!

And last, but not least, I LOVE these posts! You should have a weekend wanderlust link party! :)

  3. Shopped at a local gift shop where the owner had recently died. Bought Tevas, tank tops and jewelry. All proceeds go to our humane society. Had lunch to celebrate a freind’s birthday after shopping. Watched parts of The Oprah Channel on Sunday. Napped. Played with my dogs. A great weekend.

  4. Michael:
In only found your blog about 3 months ago but I am so enjoying it! Thanks for putting it out there!

I loved the Happiness Project. I read it last year and felt that it really enhanced my happiness in 2012. In fact, I wrote a little blog post about it recently – here’s the link if you want to take a peak: http://fitandfabyogi.com/category/book-related/

Now, I’m reading Happier at Home and I already love it too. Its a great read for those of us who like to organize and feather our nest. Gretchen’s writing style is so easy and I like how she shares her struggles and perceived shortcomings. If you like the Happiness Project put Happier at Home next on your list. I think it might be right up your alley.

By the way – those Birthday pancakes look awesome. My birthday is too far away so I’m considering using all red sprinkles and calling them Valentines Day pancakes instead! What do ya think?

  5. That’s so weird that you posted about the Keil James Patrick bracelet– I saw some of their photos on Pinterest this weekend and got sucked into a 2 hour internet fest checking out their blogs and tumblr pages (classy girls wear pearls, azimuth circle, and five point fox). I officially want to wear hunter boots, and start sailing now! How awesome does that lifestyle look???? I want one of their bracelets for this summer too.
